According to the decision of the European Commission (regulations of 10.01.2020), EU Member States were required to withdraw all plant protection products containing chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos-methyl active substances within one month (namely until 16th of February).

Countries may grant a short grace period (Article 46 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009) for the final storage, disposal and use of such substances (maximum 3 months) - such period, if provided, will end on 16 April 2020.

Also on February 18th, 2020, EU Member States endorsed the Commission's proposal to lower the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos methyl in food and feed to the lowest level. The new reduced MRLs will apply around October 2020 for both EU-produced and imported foods.

Given that Ukraine is not a EU Member State, the Regulation does not apply directly to our country. However, in order to comply with EU food safety legislation (Regulation (EC) 178/2002) and with obligations for third countries to export to the EU, non-EU countries must comply with EU food law and fulfil their obligations regarding approximation of the Association Agreement and take the necessary steps, taking into account the long integration processes.
