PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine there isa changed task for the extension phase of the Agritrade Ukraine project (ATU) since 2/24/2022.Building on existing contacts with representatives of theFood retailers and the food industry the project started coordination and support of donations from grocery retailers and thefood industry from Germany to interim storage facilities (hubs) in Poland since March. For these activities, the BMELset up the Coordination Center Food Aid Ukraine based on the ATU project.

APPROACH

The Coordination Center coordinates official inquiries from the Ukraine with donation offers from the food industry in Germany or actively engages the latter. For this purpose, the Coordination center is in close contact with the relevant public authorities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Ukraine, orients itself towards the specific needs on site and communicates these to interested companies in Germany. The center is also responsible for the transport logistics and the coordination with the storage and transhipment points ("hubs") in Poland. From there, the donations are transported to the Ukrainian border in cooperation with the Polish government agency for strategic reserves (RARS) and handed over to Ukrainian partners as well as selected non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for onward transport. The traceability of the deliveries is of great importance and is ensured as best as possible by the Coordination Center in cooperation with the Ukrainian side.
